Title 24 Recessed Lights

Various parts of Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations mandate that buildings meet certain requirements for energy conservation and green design. In particular Part 6 aka the California Energy Code addresses energy conservation in buildings, including separate requirements for both residential and non-residential lighting systems. Extensively revised in 2013, the code defines the application of lighting controls, luminaire usage and uniform level of illuminance. These requirements seek to reduce total energy use for lighting by at least 15% below a non-residential building's maximum total lighting power with automatic daylight controls and curtail lighting power by 50% to areas such as stairwell, corridors and aisles. The residential portion of the code dictates, for example, that a minimum of 50% of the total rated wattage of permanently installed lighting in kitchens must be high efficacy as well as the use of at least one high-efficacy luminaire in each bathroom. There are also requirements concerning the use of low wattage-rated incandescent lamps. If you're remodeling or building a new home or office and considering fixtures, luminaires and lamps that comply with Title 24 requirements, the knowledgeable consultants at Destination Lighting can help you devise a lighting plan for your project.
