Shallow Recessed Lights

Specifically designed as a remodel housing, as space above recessed light fixtures is often limited, shallow recessed lights are commonly seen in apartments and offices or homes that do not have attics or crawl spaces. Also known as low profile recessed lights, they work particularly well with shallow soffits in kitchens and in older homes where clearance between floors or subsequent structural layers may be less than six inches. Since shallow recessed lights typically have a wider light distribution radius, rooms using this type of luminaire generally have fewer lights than those that use canisters with deeper recessed housing. Typically the downlight from a shallow recessed luminaire is not as focused as light that emanates from a deeper fixture. Thus lighting designers recommend lamps with parabolic reflectors for use with these type of fixtures. Parabolic bulbs concentrate light on a focal point, allowing shallow recessed canisters flexibility for use as task lighting. It can be a challenge to find a lighting can with the proper clearance for a shallow ceiling. That's why Destination Lighting carries a number of shallow recessed lighting luminaires including 4-, 6- and even 3-inch housings. Choose from housing and trim in silver or white made by famous brands such as Juno and Royal Pacific. For added economy and convenience, we stock case packs containing up to six canisters.
