Energy Star Recessed Lights

An international standard for energy efficient consumer products, the Energy Star was created in 1992 by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy. Other industrialized nations such as the European Union, Canada, Japan and Australia have adopted the program. Products with the Energy Star designation typically use 20 - 30% less energy than required by federal standards. Energy Star LED lighting uses 75% less energy than incandescent lighting and lasts up to 50 times longer. Moreover, it lasts five times longer than fluorescent lighting. It also has a rated lifetime of at least 35,000 hours or 12 years. In addition, the lighting product must pass quality tests regarding light output, color quality, efficiency, flicker and strike/restrike capability. Energy Star rated light fixtures use a quarter of the energy of traditional lighting fixtures, distribute light more efficiently and evenly and carry a minimum two year warranty.
